Dignity of the Person
We recognize the dignity of the person from conception/fertilization to natural death. We hope to instill pro-life values in our students so that they will be prepared to go out into the world and build a “Culture of Life”.

Role of the Parents
The family has an irreplaceable role regarding the education of their children. As Pope John Paul II said in "The Role of the Christian Family in the Modern World",

As the Second Vatican Council recalled, "Since parents have conferred life on their children, they have a most solemn obligation to educate their offspring. Hence, parents must be acknowledged as the first and foremost educators of their children. Their role as educators is so decisive that scarcely anything can compensate for their failure in it."

The family and school need to work together to provide a proper learning structure. Accordingly, as we both work together, family and school, let us not forget the awesome responsibility we have as parents and teachers.

God’s Creation
“An education in ecological responsibility is urgent: responsibility for oneself, for others, and for the earth...a true education in responsibility entails a genuine conversion in ways of thought and behavior. Churches and religious bodies, non-governmental and governmental organizations, indeed all members of society, have a precise role to play in such education. The first educator, however, is the family, where the child learns to respect his neighbour and to love nature.” POPE JOHN PAUL II JANUARY 1, 1990

“Experience shows that disregard for the environment always harms human coexistence, and vice versa. It becomes more and more evident that there is an inseparable link between peace with creation and peace among men. Both of these presuppose peace with God. The poem-prayer of Saint Francis, known as “the Canticle of Brother Sun”, is a wonderful and ever timely example of this multifaceted ecology of peace...The destruction of the environment, its improper or selfish use, and the violent hoarding of the earth's resources cause grievances, conflicts and wars, precisely because they are the consequences of an inhumane concept of development.”POPE BENEDICT XVI JANUARY 1, 2007

St. Bernadette Academy strives to incorporate true knowledge and respect for God’s creation into our daily curriculum. We hope to give the students and families the information they need to be good stewards of this earth.

We also keep God’s creation in mind when we care for our facilities. All of the cleaners for the school are healthy, nontoxic, natural options. This will not only benefit the well being of the school as a whole it will also be more friendly to God’s creation.

Health
Acknowledging the vital role nutrition plays in a students ability to learn, St. Bernadette Academy does not allow it’s students to bring junk food, candy or soda in their lunch or snacks. We encourage parents and students to pack well balanced meals comprised of natural whole foods, full of nutrients, native to God’s creation and organic when feasible.

Following along this same thought our teachers and staff do not reward children with food. St. Bernadette Academy has adopted The Virtue Reward program to be used at every grade level.
